Proper Acknowledgement of Research Support

Properly acknowledging the support of MAES, USDA-NIFA and other research funding in published manuscripts, presentations, press releases, and other communications is an important step in order to support the work of MAES and more importantly to support the funding agents programs.  We strongly encourage researchers to clearly communicate NIFA and/or MAES contributions.

An example of this could be:

"This material is based upon work supported by the Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station, and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture, [insert project type, e.g. Hatch/Evans-Allen/McIntire Stennis project] under [insert accession number]."

Acknowledging USDA-NIFA Competitive Grant Funding

When acknowledging USDA support in accordance with 2 CFR Part 415, grantees must use the following acknowledgment for all competitive projects or initiatives supported by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA):

"This material is based upon work that is supported by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture, under award number XXX-XXXXX-XXXXX."

Acknowledging USDA-NIFA Capacity Funding

"This material is based upon work that is supported by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture, [insert project type, e.g. Hatch/Evans-Allen/McIntire Stennis project] under [insert accession number]."

USDA-NIFA Identifier

Whenever practical, NIFA also expects that grantees use NIFA’s official identifier in publications, posters, websites and presentations resulting from their award. This identifier can be found at https://nifa.usda.gov/resource/official-nifa-identifier.

USDA-NIFA Disclaimer

In addition, all publications and other materials, except scientific articles or papers published in scientific journals, must contain the following statement:
